Throughout Spring, a number of events will give a unique chance to view Northumberland’s wildlife in its natural habitat. Join local expert Martin Davison on a spring walk to see the ’sky-dance’ display flight of this magnificent large hawk. Note this walk is over rough ground and may cover 4 to 5 miles. Saturday 20 March noon-5pm workshops, 5-7.30pm lantern parade LANTERN MAKING AND PARADE NOW FULLY BOOKED, PLACES STILL AVAILABLE ON OTHER DAYTIME ACTIVITIES ONLY! Celebrate the heritage of Northumberland and cultural diversity in a fun-filled day out for all the family - the first ever magical lantern festival at Kielder Water & Forest Park. During the day, you will have the opportunity to take part in a range of family-orientated music, art and dance workshops celebrating cultural diversity and the heritage of Northumberland, as well as the chance to make your own lantern. As the evening draws in you can take part in a lantern-lit procession through Kielder Forest and down to the shores of Kielder Water, where an extravagant water-based finale awaits you. Incorporating floating lanterns, water jets, screens and dream-like water imagery, this promises to be an impressive display in a truly unique setting. The event is organised by the Kielder Partnership, together with Dodgy Clutch, and is supported by Northumberland County Council. Saturday 14 - 21 August   We invite you to join the bikebritain experience: 7 days, 7 towns, 800 km. Bikebritain is a challenging and fully supported cycling tour across English and Scottish border country, showcasing some of the best scenery the UK can offer while celebrating the diverse communities along the way. Beginning at Newcastle Racecourse we head north-west to the Northumbrian town of Bellingham. Next day we continue north through Kielder Water & Forest Park and over the Scottish border to Lockerbie. The town of Castle Douglas will be our most westerly overnight resting place on the third day before continuing north east to Moffat and then to Jedburgh. From there we return to England, cycling past the impressive Bamburgh Castle to Alnwick, our final overnight destination. Following the coast south, we ultimately finish where we began at Newcastle Racecourse, about 800 km later. The event is only open to people aged 18+. Sunday 5 December 10am The Kielder duathlon is a brand new challenge event suitable for all abilities whatever your sporting background. The event is aimed at fun competitors as well as the more serious athlete, all in a relaxed & friendly environment. If you have never done an off road duathlon before or want to challenge yourself on this spectacular course then this will be the ultimate multisport off road experience. Starting and finishing at Kielder Castle Visitor Centre, the event will consist of a 9k trail run, followed by a 20k mountain bike ride & then a further 6k trail run. The run routes will be a combination of forest roads & trails, whilst the mountain bike section will be a testing 20k circuit incorporating the new bike trails. Importantly, the course has been designed to include a balance of terrain that will test riders of all abilities & take in many of the best features of the forest.
